Love at first sight

When property developer Clark Mauger first saw Milton Street Substation he knew it was something special.

The nearly 100 year old substation is one of the largest remaining electrical substations in Christchurch. Built in 1928 during the art deco period, the design effortlessly blends classical architecture and industrial practicality in the heart of Christchurch.

Decommissioned and sold to private buyers in the 1990’s, it was used as a building material salvage yard and then as furniture manufacturing and a furniture showroom until 2011.

The earthquake damage meant the building sat unused until Mauger discovered the property in 2017

Mauger bought the building and began 3 years of renovations, earthquake strengthening and heritage preservation the substation needed to make it ready to welcome people back into the space.

Designed as a versatile event venue, with multiple spaces available to host more intimate events, or the whole venue for a large capacity occasion
